Technology massively increased production and should have made the human condition far better. It has not.
If we produce twice as much today as we did in the 1970’s but we don’t earn twice as much or work half as much, where has all that value gone?
While our parents and our grandparents benefited (since the 1980’s) from increased productivity, since the 1980’s the population has donated the value of their increased productivity to the rich. Much of the work we do now is pointless and meaningless. Only 2% work in agriculture and 10 percent work in manufacturing. Most of the jobs in the remaining service industry, over half of which the population is employed in, do not provide anything actually needed, the exception being the small fraction employed in health care.
AOC said it out loud after her constituents told her why they voted for her AND Trump:
“There is universal Frustration in this country, much of it I think justified, that is raging at a political establishment that centers corporate interests, billionaires, and puts their needs ahead of the needs of working Americans.”
What is bizarre is how people were conned into believing Trump would change their situation, instead of making it far worse, which was transparently certain to happen.
